National Guard Health Affairs performs first remote robotic surgery between Riyadh and Jeddah

Saudi National Guard Health Affairs has achieved a new medical milestone by performing a pioneering surgery using remote robotic surgery technology (telesurgery), which allows the surgeon and patient to be in different cities during the procedure.

On Wednesday, the first operation of its kind within the National Guard Health Affairs system was carried out, with a medical team at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh performing surgery on a patient at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah. The procedure showcased advanced collaboration between the urology and kidney surgery departments in both cities.

The operation was conducted using the KANGDUO – SageBot platform, enabling surgeons in Riyadh to operate with high precision on a patient in Jeddah, utilizing AI-powered robotic surgery and advanced communication technologies.

This achievement marks a significant step forward in adopting remote robotic surgery technologies within the National Guard Health Affairs, enhancing integration among its medical facilities and improving the quality and efficiency of patient care.
