Ibrahim Adel Al-Madani, Grand Mosque muezzin, dies at 51

Ibrahim Adel Al-Madani, a prominent muezzin of the Grand Mosque in Makkah and a member of the mosque's muezzin group, passed away on Monday at the age of 51 after a long career serving the call to prayer and delivering the takbirs from the mosque's halls.

Al-Madani was one of 24 main muezzins at the Grand Mosque, where six muezzins rotate daily to deliver the call to the five daily prayers, in addition to the first dawn call. He was especially known for his Fajr adhan and for leading the takbirs behind the imam from the mosque's muezzin platform.

First adhan memories and a special place

In a previous podcast interview about the Grand Mosque's muezzin platform, Al-Madani recalled his first adhan at the mosque, saying he was deeply moved and wept when he saw worshippers circling the Kaaba listening to his voice. He humbly wondered, "Who am I to have my voice raised in this sacred place?"

In the same interview, Al-Madani also explained some differences between the Makkah and Madinah schools of adhan, highlighting the unique traditions each brings to delivering the call to prayer and the takbirs.
