Saudi foreign minister represents crown prince at second day of BRICS 2026 summit

Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah attended the second day of the BRICS 2026 summit in New Delhi, India, representing Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. Saudi Arabia participated as an invited country.

In his speech at the session titled "Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability: Shaping the Future for Inclusive Global Growth," Prince Faisal conveyed greetings from King Salman and the crown prince. He thanked India for its efforts during its BRICS presidency in 2026 and expressed appreciation for the invitation to participate in the summit.

The foreign minister emphasized that, given current developments, the region's priority should be de-escalation and allowing space for political and diplomatic efforts. He stressed that security in the Arabian Gulf depends on respecting the sovereignty and independence of its states, refraining from interference in their affairs, adhering to good neighborly principles, and resolving disputes peacefully.

Saudi security and maritime freedom emphasized

Prince Faisal underlined that the security, territorial integrity, and resources of Saudi Arabia are inviolable. He stated that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries will not tolerate any attacks on their territories, facilities, or vital interests, regardless of the justification. He also highlighted the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation and the safety of commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and other maritime routes, warning that any disruption would impact global markets, supply chains, and economic growth.

Strengthening international institutions

Prince Faisal concluded by noting the goals of international institutions and the need to enhance their ability to fulfill their responsibilities. He said the credibility of the international system relies on consistent application of its rules and laws, and expressed Saudi Arabia's aspiration to continue engagement with BRICS and international partners.

The meeting was also attended by Saudi Ambassador to India Haitham bin Hassan Al-Malki.
