Sustainability research center hosts workshop on nutrient efficiency in arid soils

The National Research and Development Center for Sustainable Agriculture (Estidamah) held a workshop at its Riyadh headquarters today, titled "Nutrient Efficiency in Arid Soils," with the participation of experts, researchers, and specialists from the agricultural sector.

The workshop aimed to review the latest research, technologies, and scientific practices to improve the efficiency of nutrient use in arid soils, and to discuss challenges related to soil characteristics and their impact on nutrient absorption, contributing to increased crop productivity and the sustainability of agricultural resources.

Scientific topics addressed included the requirements and regulations for registering fertilizers and soil enhancers in Saudi Arabia, the challenges facing agricultural lands in arid regions and their effects on nutrient availability and efficiency, as well as the role of agricultural nutrients in sustaining agricultural production.

The workshop also discussed ways to enhance nutrient uptake efficiency and boost crop yields, integrated fertilizer management based on the 4R principles, and reviewed modern technologies in nutrient production and their role in developing solutions to improve fertilization efficiency and reduce resource waste.

Participants engaged in scientific discussions on key challenges and research opportunities in nutrient management, and explored how to leverage research findings and new technologies to develop more efficient agricultural practices suited to arid environments.

This workshop is part of Estidamah's efforts to promote applied scientific research, exchange knowledge and expertise with research and specialized entities, and support the development of innovative agricultural solutions that enhance input efficiency, improve productivity, and conserve natural resources, thereby supporting the sustainability of Saudi Arabia's agricultural sector.
