Saudi customs foil attempt to smuggle 1.9 million amphetamine pills

Authorities at the Haditha customs post have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1,950,581 amphetamine pills, which were discovered hidden inside a shipment carried by a truck entering the Kingdom through the border crossing.

Spokesman for the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, Hamoud Al-Harbi, explained that the pills were found when the truck underwent customs procedures and was inspected using security technology and sniffer dogs. The illicit pills were concealed within a shipment of lentils.

The spokesman stressed that the authority remains committed to strict customs control over all imports and exports at Saudi border crossings, and will continue to confront smuggling attempts. This effort is part of its core strategy to enhance security and protect society by preventing the entry of drugs and other prohibited items, in coordination with partners such as the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.

Al-Harbi called on the public to help combat smuggling and protect the community and national economy by reporting suspicious activities to the authority using the designated security hotline (1910), by email ([email protected]), or via the international number (009661910). Reports are handled confidentially, and informants may receive a financial reward if their information proves accurate.
