Arab League condemns attempted attack on Makkah

Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy has condemned the attempted attack on Makkah, stressing the League’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia.

Fahmy emphasized that any threat to the security of Makkah and the sanctity of Islamic holy sites is extremely serious, underscoring the need to protect sacred places and prevent them from being exposed to any threats.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier expressed Saudi Arabia’s condemnation and denunciation of the launch of a hostile drone by the Houthi militia toward the city of Makkah on Tuesday, 4 Rabi Al-Akhir 1448 AH, corresponding to September 15, 2026.

Saudi Arabia stressed that this cowardly terrorist attack targeting the holy city—the birthplace of Islam and the direction of Muslim prayer—constitutes a repeated violation by the Houthi militia against sacred sites and a provocation to Muslims worldwide. The statement noted that this was the second such attempt to target Makkah, following a previous incident on July 27, 2017.
