Saudi Arabia joins G20 talks on Ebola eradication in New York

Dr. Nouf Al-Nemir, Deputy Minister of Health for International Cooperation, represented Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah at the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting on accelerating collective action to eradicate the Ebola virus. The meeting took place in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting was attended by representatives from G20 member states, invited countries, and international organizations, as well as senior officials from nations affected by the virus. Participants discussed ways to strengthen international coordination and accelerate joint efforts to contain Ebola outbreaks, with a focus on supporting response efforts in affected countries and enhancing health capacities to limit transmission and prevent cross-border spread.

Strengthening cooperation and health preparedness

The meeting highlighted the importance of unifying international efforts to address cross-border health threats, as well as improving coordination among governments, international institutions, and health authorities. Participants also emphasized the need to expedite support to affected areas, including surveillance, diagnostics, field response, and capacity building, in addition to bolstering health preparedness at both regional and global levels.
