The successful separation of Noura and Sara, conjoined twins from Fiji, was announced amid emotional celebrations from their parents, who applauded the outcome of the surgery as the mother wept with joy at the completion of the procedure.

The operation was carried out under the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, supervisor general of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and head of the medical and surgical team, explained that the twins arrived in Saudi Arabia on July 21, 2026. Since then, they underwent thorough medical examinations and multidisciplinary assessments to determine the nature of their connection and the shared organs.

Tests revealed the girls were joined at the abdomen and pelvis, sharing the liver, intestines, colon, anus, urinary and reproductive systems, as well as the pelvic bone. The complexity of the separation was heightened by the number of shared organs, each requiring careful management during the surgical stages.

According to Al-Rabeeah, the medical team developed a surgical plan consisting of nine stages, expected to last about 15 hours, involving 34 consultants, specialists, technical staff, and nurses. The participating teams included experts in anesthesia, pediatric surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedics, and urology, along with supporting medical specialties.

Medical evaluations and diagnostic studies estimated the success rate of the operation at around 70 percent, given the complexity of the twins' condition and the nature of their shared organs.
