Saudi customs foil attempt to smuggle 4.5 kg of meth at Rub' al-Khali crossing

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) at the Rub' al-Khali border crossing has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 4.559 kilograms of methamphetamine, known locally as "shabu," which was found hidden in a truck entering Saudi Arabia through the post.

ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi said that during routine customs procedures, security technology and sniffer dogs were used to inspect a truck, leading to the discovery of the methamphetamine concealed in the vehicle's engine compartment.

He added that after the seizure, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control to apprehend the intended recipient of the drugs, who was arrested within the Kingdom.

The spokesperson affirmed that ZATCA remains committed to strict customs oversight at all Saudi entry and exit points, working to prevent smuggling attempts as part of its strategy to enhance national security and protect society. He noted that this is achieved in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.

Al-Harbi called on the public to help combat smuggling and protect the community and national economy by reporting suspicious activities to ZATCA via the security hotline (1910), email ([email protected]), or the international number (009661910). Reports are handled confidentially, and informants may receive a financial reward if their information proves accurate.
