Nigerian woman executed in Madinah for smuggling cocaine into Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday the execution of Fatima Taiwo Fahm, a Nigerian national, in the Madinah region after she was convicted of smuggling cocaine into Saudi Arabia.

The ministry stated that security authorities arrested the offender, and investigations led to her being formally charged with the crime. After being referred to the competent court, she was found guilty and sentenced to death under discretionary punishment. The verdict was upheld by the relevant authorities and became final, after which a royal order was issued to carry out the sentence in accordance with Islamic law.

The execution was carried out on Thursday, 6 Rabi Al-Akhir 1448 AH, corresponding to September 17, 2026, in the Madinah region.

Warning against drug trafficking and promotion

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed the Saudi government’s commitment to protecting citizens and residents from the dangers of drugs, and to imposing the strictest penalties on traffickers and dealers due to the severe harm they cause to individuals and society. The ministry also warned that anyone who commits such crimes will face the prescribed legal punishments.
