Heavy thunderstorms and flash floods expected in southern regions

The National Center for Meteorology has forecast continued chances of moderate to heavy thunderstorms, which may lead to flash floods and hail showers, across parts of Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha.

The report added that light to moderate rain is expected in parts of Makkah, Madinah, and Najran, accompanied by strong surface winds stirring dust and sand in those areas, as well as in parts of Tabuk, Al-Jouf, and the Northern Borders region.

The center also noted that fog formation is possible overnight and in the early morning hours along the coastal areas of Makkah and the Eastern Province.

Wind and sea conditions

According to the report, surface winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds between 14 and 40 km/h, northwesterly to westerly at 14 to 42 km/h, and southeasterly to southwesterly at 10 to 32 km/h, possibly exceeding 50 km/h during thunderstorms.

Wave heights in the Red Sea will range from half a meter to one and a half meters, potentially exceeding two meters during thunderstorms. Sea conditions will be light to moderate, becoming rough during rainfall.

In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be northwesterly to westerly, shifting to southerly in the evening at speeds of 12 to 30 km/h, and westerly to southwesterly at 10 to 25 km/h. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one meter, with generally slight sea conditions.
