Multinational maritime defense coalition enters operational integration phase

The fourth planning meeting of the multinational maritime defense coalition was held at the Western Fleet Command in Jeddah, bringing together 154 naval commanders, planners, ambassadors, and European Union representatives from 41 allied and partner countries. The coalition is advancing from its establishment phase to operational readiness, having achieved full initial operational capability. It is now focused on integrating capabilities and preparing for operational deployment in the maritime area of operations.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense on its X platform account, the meeting reviewed recent developments, achievements, and the progress of countries joining the coalition. Several nations have recently signed the charter and joint statement, and there are currently 28 liaison officers. The meeting also addressed requirements for joint operations and the allocation of capabilities from participating countries to support coordinated and integrated multinational defense operations, further enhancing the coalition’s operational readiness.

The ministry stated that this fourth planning meeting marks a significant step for the coalition as it shifts focus to strengthening operational readiness and preparing for unified command. The aim is to deploy forces and commence operational tasks within the designated sector, emphasizing that safeguarding freedom of navigation and maritime straits is a shared international interest requiring effective partnership, diverse capabilities, and collective response.

The Ministry of Defense added that the coalition is committed to supporting the security and safety of maritime navigation in accordance with international law, operating in a multinational environment based on unified command, integrated capabilities, information sharing, and coordinated efforts to counter threats targeting the security of navigation and maritime passages in its area of responsibility.
