Thumamah Road upgrade to boost traffic flow in east Riyadh, says columnist

Journalist Naif Al-Harbi said Thumamah Road is a key route in eastern Riyadh, and enhancing its capacity will support smoother traffic flow and boost the capital’s readiness for upcoming requirements.

Speaking in an interview with Al Ekhbariya TV, he added that the project is part of a broader plan to develop Riyadh’s road network, which is essential given the city’s rapid growth in population, vehicles, and economic and urban activity.

On Saturday, a new traffic diversion was launched in Riyadh as part of the Thumamah Road development project in the eastern section. The initiative, led by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, aims to enhance the efficiency of the road network and improve traffic flow in the capital.

The Thumamah Road (eastern section) development is part of the “third group” of the Ring and Main Roads Development Program. The project spans 8 kilometers and includes the construction of three bridges, three tunnels, and four main intersections: Airport Road, Saeed bin Zaid Road, Sheikh Hassan bin Hussein Road, and Al-Sahaba Road. It aims to increase capacity to over 200,000 vehicles daily, improve traffic service levels, and reduce travel times and congestion.
