Thunderstorms and flash floods expected across several Saudi regions today

The National Center for Meteorology reported on Saturday, September 27, 2026, that moderate to heavy thunderstorms are expected to continue, leading to flash floods accompanied by hail and strong winds in parts of Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, and Makkah regions.

The report added that light to moderate rainfall is likely in parts of Madinah, while skies will be partly to mostly cloudy with a chance of scattered thunderstorms in areas of Hail, Qassim, and the Northern Borders region.

Additionally, fog formation is possible overnight and during early morning hours along coastal areas of Makkah and the Eastern Province.

Wind and sea conditions

The report noted that surface winds over the Red Sea will be northwesterly to northerly at speeds of 20–45 km/h, and southwesterly to northwesterly at 10–30 km/h, reaching over 50 km/h with thunderstorm activity. Wave heights will range from half a meter to one and a half meters, possibly exceeding two meters during thunderstorms. Sea conditions will be slight to moderate, becoming rough with storm clouds.

In the Arabian Gulf, surface winds will be northwesterly to southwesterly at 10–25 km/h, shifting to southwesterly to southeasterly at similar speeds. Waves will rise from half a meter to one meter, with slight sea conditions.
