Yemen backs Saudi Arabia's right to defend its security at UN

Yemen's Permanent Representative to the United Nations said his country stands with Saudi Arabia and supports its right to defend its security and territory.

He added that the Yemeni armed forces are reorganizing and regaining the initiative, emphasizing that Yemen is defending an international waterway vital to global interests. Bab Al-Mandab is a key part of the world economy, and the Yemeni government will continue efforts to protect maritime routes, according to Al Arabiya.

The envoy also stressed that the security of Bab Al-Mandab and the Red Sea is a responsibility that extends beyond Yemen. He called for strengthening the state's capacity to safeguard these waterways and for an international deterrence system to prevent the Houthis from threatening navigation.

He warned that Houthi control over Bab Al-Mandab would encourage terrorism in the Horn of Africa, and that Houthi escalation poses a growing threat to regional security. The envoy said the Houthis are seeking to use energy corridors as leverage, adding that Yemen is not asking the world to defend Yemenis, but to defend its own interests.
