AlUla to host heritage and cultural events for 96th Saudi National Day

AlUla is preparing to celebrate the 96th Saudi National Day with a program of heritage, cultural, and entertainment events on September 23 and 24. Activities will take place across several sites in the governorate, featuring folk arts, musical and cinematic performances, interactive programs, and events highlighting AlUla’s agricultural and artisanal heritage.

Celebration venues such as Al-Manshiyah Square, AlJadidah Arts District, and the Old Town will be adorned with national flags, decorations, lighting, and patriotic songs. The festivities will include the Saudi ardah, national music, live performances by the AlUla Music Hub, and displays by local families showcasing handicrafts, local products, and traditional foods.

On September 23, Al-Manshiyah Square will host key events, including national music, children’s programs, and the Saudi ardah. In the evening, “AlJadidah Terraces” will feature live musical performances, while visitors arriving at AlUla Airport on the same day will receive a special welcome with commemorative gifts.

The cultural and artistic program includes an embroidery workshop at Al-Deera School and traditional arts studios, where participants can design a commemorative pin inspired by Saudi motifs. Guided tours will be offered at the Visitor Center, and “AlJadidah Cinema” will screen three nightly showings of Saudi short films throughout the two-day celebration.

On September 24, cultural activities continue with the “Story for a Story” event at the “Huna” venue in the Old Town, where local storytellers will hold bilingual Arabic and English sessions inspired by UNESCO’s storytelling and dialogue methodology, allowing participants to explore community tales and cultural heritage.

Family-friendly and interactive programs are also planned, with AlUla Public Library hosting five children’s sessions featuring drawing and creative activities. Family-oriented events will be spread across Al-Manshiyah Square and other participating locations during the celebrations.

The festivities coincide with the AlUla Date Season, which runs at the Farmers’ Market in Al-Manshiyah Square from September 18 to 27. The market highlights the governorate’s agricultural heritage and historical ties to palm cultivation and date production. On September 24, the date season events will merge with National Day celebrations, featuring the Saudi ardah, entertainment, and market activities.

National Day programs will also extend to Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering hospitality experiences such as Arabic coffee and dates, cycling tours, and stargazing activities.

These events reflect the rich cultural and heritage landscape of AlUla, bringing together residents and visitors to celebrate Saudi National Day through folk arts, local stories, crafts, agricultural traditions, and artistic programs.
