Saudi students develop drone to aid search and rescue missions

Saudi students continue to demonstrate creativity across various fields, using graduation projects in different disciplines as platforms to showcase their innovations.

Murad Al-Mukhlafi, a student at King Abdulaziz University, presented the "Rased" drone, which was developed as part of this trend. The unmanned aerial vehicle is designed for search and rescue operations, assisting Civil Defense teams in locating missing persons, according to Al Arabiya.

The drone weighs 12 kilograms, has a wingspan of 2.5 meters, and can fly up to 100 kilometers per hour.

Equipped with a thermal camera, the drone helps Civil Defense teams by sending signals to indicate the location of missing individuals. It is initially controlled by remote, after which it can switch to autonomous operation.
