Turkish foreign minister: Attacks on Saudi Arabia from Iraq-based militants unacceptable

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has condemned attacks targeting Saudi Arabia from both the south and north by militants based in Iraq, describing them as unacceptable.

Fidan, as quoted by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, said: "When such actions aim to encircle Saudi Arabia from the north and south, destroy vital infrastructure, and harm not only Saudi Arabia but the region as a whole, no one can remain indifferent."

He added that Turkey is acting in line with the spirit of the "Mecca Pact."

Fidan noted that Ankara has reiterated its support for Saudi Arabia in a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and that necessary messages have also been conveyed to other concerned parties.

Regarding the "Mecca Pact," the Turkish foreign minister explained that technical discussions to institutionalize the agreement between Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan are ongoing. He said these talks currently focus on issues such as the structure of the pact’s headquarters and staffing, noting that the process is nearing completion and more concrete steps will be taken in the next phase.
