Saudi Arabia Will Remain Mediator of Peace, Saudi FM

Saudi FM Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that the Kingdom "was and remains a mediator of peace;" constantly working "to end many international conflicts; side by side with the United Nations and its various bodies, for the sake of humanity."

"Saudi Arabia is proud to be a founding member of the UNs, as it extended its hand to partnership and cooperation since the organization's establishment in 1945," Bin Farhan said, in his country's virtual address to a high-level meeting to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations on Monday.

"Since then, the Kingdom has assumed the responsibility of achieving the purposes of the United Nations Charter in preserving the security and safety of the peoples of the world."

The Saudi minister also said that the Kingdom spared no effort to help afflicted and needy countries.

"Saudi Arabia continues today its tangible efforts; under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz, to pursue its march to achieve stability; prosperity; growth and peace in the region and the world," he also stated.

Coordinating global efforts

Bin Farhan also noted that king Salman called for a virtual summit of leaders of the G20 countries and international organizations; led by the United Nations, to discuss ways to coordinate global efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic; mitigate its humanitarian, social and economic impacts, protect the global economy and enhance international cooperation.

At the end of the summit, the Kingdom also announced its donation of $500mn. This is to cover the financing gap in the WHO Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan, the minister revealed.

He also stressed his country's keenness to "move forward with the noble goals upon which the UN was based;" which he said include achieving peace and security; protecting the vulnerable groups, consolidate friendly relations between nations; joining efforts to raise the people's' living standards and confronting global challenges.
