Saudi Arabia's National Cybersecurity Authority has signed an agreement with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU); a specialized agency for information and communication technology of the United Nations, to launch a global program; in order to protect children in cyberspace.
During the signing of the agreement, ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao lauded Saudi Arabia's efforts to protect children in cyberspace.
The ITU chief also said that children's safety on the internet has become more necessary than ever, pointing out that the launch of this program will contribute to reducing crimes; targeting children on the internet; and will contribute to providing the necessary resource; and skills to children as well as their coaches and parents.
He added that the ITU appreciates the efforts of the Kingdom under the leadership of Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman to protect children in cyberspace.
Speaking on the occasion, the chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Cybersecurity Authority, Dr. Musaed bin Mohammad Al-Aiban, praised the empowerment and protection of children in cyberspace; as it is a top priority for the Crown Prince and the launch of the global program reflects his keenness to protect children in cyberspace.
Dr. Al-Aiban said that the Saudi authority has worked with the ITU to design the comprehensive program; which we hope to have an impact on increasing international cooperation; in order to enhance the protection of children in cyberspace.
Meanwhile, Doreen Bogdan Martin, the director of the ITU's telecommunication development bureau; said: "This program is a milestone for global cooperation related to child safety on the Internet, and will help the ITU in building capacity and equipping all relevant parties with digital safety skills.
