President ofHuman Rights Commission (HRC) Dr. Awwad bin Saleh Al-Awwad has affirmed thatthe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is working to protect and promote human rightsthrough a system of laws, legislations and measures that have brought aboutfundamental changes and qualitative reforms.

He stressedthe Commission's work with all its capabilities to combat trafficking inpersons, which is one of the most heinous crimes that violate the rights ofhuman beings, through its regulations, international agreements and protocolsthat it joined, and memorandums of cooperation signed with the relevantinternational organizations and bodies.

These effortscontributed to building a systematic and institutional framework that ensuresthe protection of all persons from crimes of trafficking in persons withoutdiscrimination, and promotes the prosecution and conviction of theperpetrators, the issuance of strict sentences against them, and the provisionof assistance to victims.

Dr. Al-Awwadsaid, after signing a memorandum of understanding in Riyadh today with theUnited Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, that the memorandum comes within theframework of joint cooperation between the Commission and the United Nations,as it will enhance cooperation in matters related to combating and preventingtrafficking in persons.
