Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed a "hostile air target" aimed at Jeddah, the Defense Ministry said on Saturday.

On Tuesday, the Saudi navy intercepted and destroyed a remote-controlled explosive-laden boat off the Red Sea port of Yanbu.

Defense Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Turki al-Malki said the destruction was according to the rules of engagement.

He also said the ministry was taking strict measures against any hostile attempts to target the Kingdom's economic facilities.

The ministry did not provide additional further information nor did it say who could have been behind the attack.

The Iran-backed Houthi militia in Yemen however have increasingly launched ballistic missiles and drones; rigged with explosives against Saudi Arabia, targeting crucial oil infrastructure and civilian facilities.
