A car drove at high speed in the wrong direction, crashing into three others outside the National Cancer Institute in central Cairo, causing an explosion on Sunday evening, led to dozens of deaths and injuries.

An official source at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Saudi Arabia's condemnation of the terrorist incident that took place in the vicinity of Al-Qasr Al-Aini in Cairo, killing 20 people and wounding 47.

The official source affirmed that Saudi Arabia stands alongside Egypt and its People in combating terrorism in all its forms and whatever its source is.

King Salman Al-Saud and Crown Prince, Muhammad bin Salman sent a telegram to president of Egypt, Al-Sisi, expressing their deepest sympathy and condolences to the victims of the terrorist incident in the vicinity of Al-Qasr Al-Aini in Cairo.

King Salman Al-Saud said: "We have received the news of the terrorist incident that took place in the vicinity of Al-Qasr al-Aini in Cairo and the resulting deaths and injuries. We condemn in the strongest terms this criminal act and confirm that Saudi Arabia supports Egypt and its People".

The Crown Prince, Muhammad bin Salman said: "I have learned of the terrorist incident that took place in the vicinity of Al-Qasr al-Aini in Cairo and the resulting deaths and injuries. I condemn this cowardly criminal act to convey and extend to your excellency, the People of Egypt, and the families of the dead the deepest condolences and sympathies. May Almighty grant the injured a speedy recovery and may the dead rest in peace".

For its part, the Egyptian Interior Ministry confirmed that the car that caused the explosion outside the National Cancer Institute in central Cairo was booby-trapped and prepared to carry out a terrorist operation.

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi also confirmed that the explosion that took place on Sunday evening in the vicinity of Al-Qasr Al-Aini in Cairo was "a cowardly terrorist incident".

"TheEgyptian state, with all its institutions, is determined to confront brutalterrorism and uproot it from its roots," Al-Sisi said on his officialaccount at Facebook.
