Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed Monday that the Kingdom is witnessing several positive developments. It has completed pioneering reform that is focused on the people and development.
Addressing the 43rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva; he highlighted Saudi Arabia's efforts in empowering women in line with Vision 2030. Besides, Saudi Arabia's presidency of the 2020 G20.
The Kingdom will focus during its presidency on empowering man; through preparing the conditions that would guarantee coexistence, jobs and prosperity.
It will also focus on preserving the plant through collective efforts aimed at preserving joint resources. It will also aim to adopt bold long-term strategies to benefit from and share innovation.
On political affairs, Prince Faisal underscored the Palestinian people's right to determine their fate.
He underlined Riyadh's major efforts in recent years to combat extremism and terrorism. The prince also noted that it has adopted measures to eliminate the sources of such murderous and destructive ideology.
He stressed the need to be wary of some media platforms that back such ideology under the pretense of freedom of expression. While they are actually to destabilize nations and societies. He also cited international agreements on legitimate restrictions to freedom of expression.
On Yemen, Prince Faisal reiterated Saudi Arabia's firm stance in supporting its people and legitimate government against the Iran-backed Houthi militias.
Saudi Arabia is committed to the political solution to the crisis, he added, saying the solution hinges on the militias accepting it. The solution must be based on the three references'; the Gulf initiative, national dialogue outcomes and United Nations Security Council resolution 2216.
The minister also took part in a disarmament conference; where he expressed Saudi Arabia's concern over the threats surrounding the Arab Gulf region that stem from the terrorist groups and militias backed by Iran.
He accused Tehran of providing these groups with advanced military equipment and ballistic missile technology to target civilian and oil installations in the region.
The prince slammed the "cowardly" attack against Saudi Aramco's Khurais and Abqaiq oil facilities last year, saying it was a dangerous threat to global oil supplies. He credited quick Saudi measures that helped stem the sharp increase in global oil prices.
The Houthis are still carrying out their terrorist acts; as the international community remains silent over Iran's hostile practices, Prince Faisal remarked.
The minister held talks on the sidelines of the Human Rights Council with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, as well as his counterparts from Iraq, Iceland and Cameroon.
