The Secretary General of the Organization ofIslamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, has confirmedthat women's empowerment, highlighting their contributions to differentsectors, and enabling them to face different challenges and obtain their rightsare top priorities of OIC.
On the occasion of International Women's Day2020 which is celebrated annually on 8th March, the Secretary General ofOIC congratulates women around the world, especially women in areas of wars anddestruction.
Dr. Al-Othaimeen also called on theinternational community to intensify efforts to alleviate the sufferings ofwomen and children in these areas. He added that discrimination and racismagainst women are some of the obstacles that women face in some societies, andcalled on members states to intensive efforts to empower women in differentsectors.
He also clarified that the 7th session of MinisterialConference for Women issued a number of resolutions related to promotingwomen's roles in peace, enabling them politically, economically, and socially,protecting them from all kinds of violence, and providing equal opportunity forthem. Dr. Al-Othaimeen called on member states to ratify the laws of OICWomen Development Organization.
