The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen, has confirmed that women’s empowerment, highlighting their contributions to different sectors, and enabling them to face different challenges and obtain their rights are top priorities of OIC.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2020 which is celebrated annually on 8th March, the Secretary General of OIC congratulates women around the world, especially women in areas of wars and destruction.
Dr. Al-Othaimeen also called on the international community to intensify efforts to alleviate the sufferings of women and children in these areas. He added that discrimination and racism against women are some of the obstacles that women face in some societies, and called on members states to intensive efforts to empower women in different sectors.
He also clarified that the 7th session of Ministerial Conference for Women issued a number of resolutions related to promoting women’s roles in peace, enabling them politically, economically, and socially, protecting them from all kinds of violence, and providing equal opportunity for them. Dr. Al-Othaimeen called on member states to ratify the laws of OIC Women Development Organization.
