The Republic of Malta has confirmed that it will formally recognize the State of Palestine this September, adding to international diplomatic pressure from various nations, including France and the United Kingdom, aimed at resolving the nearly 80-year-old Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of the Republic of Malta Christopher Cutajar made the announcement at the UN General Assembly meeting on the two-state solution.

He stated, "Malta has long supported the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people, and as responsible actors, we have a duty to work toward translating the two-state solution from theory into practice."

Malta’s Prime Minister Robert Abela had previously announced the country’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine, stating, "This is part of our ongoing efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East."
