Saudi King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said on Wednesdaythat as the world confronts the new coronavirus, the Group of 20 major economieswill convene in an exceptional summit to come up with initiatives to unite theefforts to combat the pandemic.
"As the world confronts the COVID-19 pandemicand the challenges to healthcare systems and the global economy, we convenethis extraordinary G20 summit to unite efforts towards a global response,"the King said on Twitter.
The Kingdom, which holds the G20 presidency this year, willhost G20 leaders by video-conference on Thursday.
G20 members will be joined by leaders from invitedcountries, Spain, Jordan, Singapore, and Switzerland, as well as internationalorganizations; United Nations (UN), World Bank Group (WBG), the WorldHealth Organization (WHO) and World Trade Organization (WTO), theFood and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Financial Stability Board (FSB),the International Labor Organization (ILO), International Monetary Fund (IMF),the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the SaudiPress Agency reported Wednesday.
Regional organizations will be represented by Vietnam theChair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), South Africa theChair of the African Union (AU), the United Arab Emirates the Chair of the GulfCooperation Council (GCC) and Rwanda the Chair of the New Partnership forAfrica's Development (NEPAD), SPA added.
