The United Nations Tourism Organization announced the inclusion of Abo Noghta Castles in the historic town of Tabab, located in Saudi Arabia’s Aseer region, as one of the "Best Tourism Villages for 2024."
The minister expressed his excitement at the recognition, emphasizing that it highlights the rich historical and cultural significance of Saudi Arabia’s diverse destinations.
He noted that the inclusion of Abo Noghta Castles in the prestigious list acknowledges the deep heritage and cultural value of the site, which has stood for hundreds of years.
He further explained that the achievement aligns with Saudi Arabia’s vision to establish itself as a leading global tourism destination, offering unique environmental, cultural, and historical experiences.
Al Khateeb highlighted the collaborative efforts behind the milestone, explaining that the Ministry of Tourism worked closely with other government agencies to support and manage the nomination process.
Their teamwork reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to showcasing its rural heritage on the global stage and promoting its lesser-known treasures to international audiences.
During the ceremony, Abo Noghta Castles chairman of the board of directors Saeed bin Saud Abu Nuqta Al-Mutahami received a commemorative gift to mark the honor.
The recognition underscores the importance of preserving and promoting historical landmarks like Abo Noghta Castles, which play a vital role in the cultural identity of the Aseer region.
Abo Noghta Castles stand as one of the most significant historical landmarks in Tabab, a town located 25 kilometers northwest of Abha at an elevation of about 2,400 meters above sea level.
The six forts and palaces, built from mountain stone, reflect the authentic heritage of the Aseer region. Situated along the banks of Wadi Tabb Al-Khasib, the castles provide visitors with views of the surrounding landscape, connecting history with the natural beauty of the region.
