The Saudi Informatics team has completed its training in Alexandria, Egypt, in preparation for the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) whose 36th edition is scheduled to take place in Alexandria from September 1 to 8.

Participants from nearly 90 countries are expected at the Olympiad.
Saudi Arabia has a good track record in this Olympiad, having earned six international awards in past competitions, including four bronze medals and two certificates of appreciation.

This year's participation is the outcome of a strategic collaboration between the King Abdulaziz and his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) and the Ministry of Education, with Elm Company as sponsor.

IOI is an annual global programming competition for high school students. Originating in Bulgaria in 1989, the event operates under the patronage of UNESCO and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP).

The Olympiad is a prestigious global computer science competition and one of five international science Olympiads held each year.

It ranks as the second largest scientific competition worldwide, after the International Mathematical Olympiad, in terms of participating countries.
