Saudi Arabia participated today in the two-day meeting of the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) advisory group held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Dr. Aqeel Al-Ghamdi, the assistant supervisor general for planning and development at the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) and member of the advisory group, represented the Kingdom at the meeting.

During the first day of the meeting, Alice Armanni Sequi, the chief of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Pooled Fund Management Branch, presented the developments in the CERF’s activities since the last advisory group meeting.

Sequi also highlighted the optimal use of the CERF and efforts to update its current priorities, including anticipatory action, localization, innovation, as well as integration and learning in humanitarian action.

Meanwhile the second day of the meeting discussed the CERF from a field perspective, with proposals submitted by humanitarian affairs coordinators from countries receiving support from the fund.

Direct discussions were conducted with the coordinators to explore the added value of the CERF.
