The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) General Secretariat welcomes the United Nations General Assembly’s (UNGA’s) adoption of a resolution on cooperation between the United Nations and the OIC, expressing gratitude to the countries that endorsed the decision.

The General Secretariat commended the supportive stance of the countries that backed the resolution, which reaffirms their commitment to issues of peace, security, and international cooperation.

The resolution, called "Cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation," was adopted by consensus. It focuses on common goals between the United Nations and the OIC and their efforts to address challenges globally, among other issues.

The resolution underscores the commitment of both organizations to conflict prevention, peacebuilding and preservation, post-conflict rehabilitation, and peace culture promotion. These includes addressing issues affecting Muslim communities globally, with a particular emphasis on interfaith dialogue and cooperation initiatives.

The resolution emphasizes the keenness for close cooperation between the OIC and the United Nations in various fields. It highlights the importance of their partnership in advancing the peace process in the Middle East, combating religious and belief-based intolerance and discrimination, countering violent extremism, and advocating for increased collaboration on issues such as counterterrorism and conflict mediation.

On this occasion, the OIC reiterates its call to the international community to enhance efforts in implementing the United Nations resolution regarding the Palestinian cause. It urges recognition of the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with east Jerusalem as its capital.

The OIC underscores the growing importance of the partnership between itself and the United Nations, recognizing the strategic value of the partnership to address crises, whether emerging or protracted, amid ongoing international conflicts.
