National Center for Wildlife Hosts the Red Sea Decade Expedition Symposium

The National Center for Wildlife is organizing the Red Sea Decade Expedition Symposium in Riyadh on February 11 and 12.

The event, held under the patronage of Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadley, will bring together local and international experts in marine environments, government officials, and representatives of other concerned organizations.

The symposium aims to present the key findings of the Red Sea Decade Expedition, which was initiated by the center in February 2022. Conducted aboard NYC's OceanX and KAU-KAUST's Al-Azizi vessels, the expedition focused on mapping the habitats of the Red Sea and creating a comprehensive inventory of its biodiversity.

Over a period of 19 weeks, the 126 researchers who participated in the expedition conducted the first-ever comprehensive survey of previously unexplored areas ranging from Afifi, in the southern Red Sea, to the Gulf of Aqaba, in the north. The expedition yielded valuable documentary and informational materials about these areas.

Detailed information about the symposium and its outcomes may be accessed on the website at https://rsde.ncw.gov.sa/?page_id=630. All sessions will be live-streamed on the center's platforms.
