The Makkah Route initiative, implemented by the Ministry of Interior as part of the Pilgrim Experience Program which is one of the programs of Saudi Vision 2030, presents a service for coding and sorting Hajj pilgrims’ luggage at international airports to guarantee their arrival to the pilgrims' accommodation in Makkah and Madinah.

A specialized team under the supervision of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah implements the coding process which starts in the hall designated for the Makkah Route initiative at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, by sorting the luggage and adding to them binary barcodes which contains flight data and information about the pilgrims and their residence places.

The same coding is added on the cover of the pilgrim’s passport. Each pilgrim receives a card with the information written on their luggage.

Upon the arrival of Hajj pilgrims at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah, buses transport them to their places of residence in Makkah and Madinah.

The authorities responsible for the service of the initiative undertake luggage delivery, according to transportation and accommodation arrangements in the Kingdom.

The coding service is intended to ensure luggage arrival at each residence place of Hajj pilgrims, in addition to reducing and facilitating travel procedures for Hajj pilgrims from their country's airports.
