15 AEDs Serve Visitors to the Holy Mosque of Makkah
Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) installed throughout the Holy Mosque of Makkah were used 19 times during 2023 by visitors, volunteers, or mosque employees.
Fifteen AEDs distributed in vital locations, five at the main gates, five at the Tawaf (circumambulation area of the Holy Kaaba), and five at the third expansion of the Holy Mosque, are a crucial part of the medical equipment used to save the lives of the worshippers at Makkah's Holy Mosque.
In cases of cardiac arrest, AEDs are used to regulate the heartbeat through a steady current that restores normal pulse.
The medical and ambulance services at the Holy Mosque are part of a comprehensive care system provided by the concerned authorities to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors to the mosque, deal with any health emergency, and provide care if needed.
