Saudi Arabia calls on international community not to transfer embassies to Jerusalem

Saudi Arabia called on the international community to implement the resolutions of international legitimacy, most recently Security Council resolution 2334 (2016) condemning Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories and the confiscation of land. The countries also demanded that Israel not be transferred to Jerusalem or recognized as the capital of Israel.

SaudiArabia stressed the importance of a comprehensive and lasting peace in theMiddle East as a strategic Arab option embodied in the Arab peace initiativeadopted by all Arab countries at the Beirut Summit in 2002 and supported by theOrganization of Islamic Cooperation.

Thiscame in a speech delivered by the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Egypt and thePermanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the League of ArabStates, Osama Naqli, who headed the Saudi delegation to the fifth session ofthe Strategic Political Dialogue at the senior officials' level and the 16thsession of the Senior Officials Meeting of the Arab-Chinese forum hosted by theUAE, over two days, and concluded its activities earlier today.

Theambassador, Osama Naqli said that the Palestinian issue is the first Arabcentral issue through which we affirm the importance of a comprehensive andlasting peace in the Middle East as a strategic Arab option embodied in theArab Peace Initiative adopted by all Arab countries at the 2002 Beirut Summitand supported by the Islamic Cooperation Organization, in which we rejected theAmerican decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and all the unilateralIsraeli steps aimed at changing facts on the ground and undermining thetwo-state solution.

Hewill not undermine the Kingdom's support for the political process in Yemen andwill not undermine the efforts of the Arab coalition to support the legitimacyin Yemen and end the Yemeni crisis on the basis of the Gulf initiative and itsexecutive mechanisms and the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, andSecurity Council resolution no. 2216, while welcoming resolution no. 2452establishing the United Nations Support Mission to the Hodeidah Agreement asprovided for in the Stockholm Agreement.

The ambassador, Osama Naqli praised Egypt's keenness to abide by international law and international humanitarian law in its military operations despite all the serious terrorist acts and provocations against the Yemeni people and the security of the coalition countries, the most recent terrorist attack of which was on Abha International Airport, and endangering air navigation and the lives of innocent civilians, which amounts to a war crime.

"Theblatant interference by Iran in the internal affairs of the Arab countriesviolates the rules of international law, the principle of good neighborliness,and the sovereignty of states," Osama Naqli said, expressing the Saudirejection of Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countriesand condemning all its aggressive attempts to destabilize peace and security inthe region and the world.

SaudiArabia also condemns Iranian sectarian violence in Arab countries, includingits support and arming of terrorist militias in a number of Arab countries,stressing firmly and strongly against any Iranian attempts to threaten energysecurity and the freedom and safety of maritime installations in the ArabianGulf and other waterways, whether carried out by Iran or through its arms inthe region.

Naqlire-confirmed the Saudi position in support of the political solution to theSyrian crisis in order to build a new Syrian state in order to achieve theaspirations of the Syrian people, preserve the unity of the country, protectits sovereignty and independence, and end the presence of all external forcesand sectarian terrorist groups, based on Geneva-1 in particular the resolution no.2254 of 2015.

Onthe Libyan issue, the head of the Saudi delegation in the meeting emphasizedthe importance of supporting the Libyan legal institutions and efforts to reachan agreement that ends the crisis through national reconciliation in accordancewith the Skhirat agreement, praising the role of Libyan neighboring countriesand calling on them to continue supporting the path of Political settlement inLibya, stressing stand with Libya in its efforts to defeat the terrorist gangsand eradicate the threat it poses to Libya and its neighbors.

Onthe Sudanese issue, Osama Naqli said in his speech: "We support the choices ofthe Sudanese people and what they decide on their future. We call upon all theSudanese parties to continue the constructive dialogue for the maintenance ofsecurity in the Sudan, with our support for the peaceful transfer of power andstability and sustainable development. Calling on the international communityto write off Sudan's external debts and to lift economic sanctions, and removeits name from the list of state sponsors of terrorism; being a pivotal statecontributing to the maintenance of peace and security in its regionalenvironment and in the world.
