Malaysian Islamic Figures Praise Saudi Arabia’s Pioneering Role in Serving the Holy Qur’an, Memorizing it, and Spreading Moderate Islam

A number of Islamic figures based in Malaysia have appreciated the role that Saudi Arabia is playing under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and HRH the Crown Prince in supporting Muslims, encouraging their children to memorize the Holy Qur’an, and spreading the moderate teachings of Islam, it was reported on Sunday.

They were interviewed following the closing ceremony on Saturday, which honored the male and female laureates of the 16th edition of the National Itqan Competition for Memorizing the Holy Qur’an.

The competition was organized by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, represented by the Religious Attaché office at the Saudi Embassy in Malaysia, in cooperation with the Proficiency Foundation for Teaching the Holy Qur’an in Malaysia.

The ceremony was held at the International Islamic University in Kuala Lumpur, where 54 male and female participants came top among 173 contestants out of 1,200 participants from various Malaysian states.

Those interviewed highly valued the efforts Saudi Arabia is exerting, under the leadership of King Salman and HRH the Crown Prince, to spread the Holy Qur’an as well as Islam's moderate concepts and beliefs, and to encourage its memorizers, particularly the youth from both genders.

They also paid tribute to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance, led by Minister Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif Al Al-Sheikh, for organizing this prestigious event in Malaysia.

The interviewees included the Mufti of the State of Perlis, Dr. Muhammad Asri Zainal Abidin; the founding director of the Itqan Education Foundation and head of the Department of the Qur’an and Sunnah at the International Islamic University in Malaysia, Dr. Nashwan bin Abdo; and a lecturer in the Department of Qur’anic Studies and Sunnah at the Islamic University of Malaysia, Abu Hafiz bin Salahuddin.
