Egypt Secures 2-Year Term on AU Peace and Security Council

Egypt was elected to membership in the African Peace and Security Council for a two-year term 2024-2026, after obtaining 44 votes out of a total of 46 votes of African Union member states who are entitled to vote, after its candidacy for membership in the Council for the North states' region.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that this broad support reflects the confidence of African countries in Egypt’s capabilities in this vital file, especially since it has emerged in successive memberships in the African Peace and Security Council, the last of which was during 2020-2022.
