Red Sea home to over 1,200 fish species, marine biologist says
The Red Sea boasts exceptional biodiversity, with more than 1,200 fish species and around 350 types of hard coral, according to a Saudi marine biologist.

Speaking in an interview with Al Ekhbariya Radio, Sarhan noted that the Red Sea is home to more than 1,200 species of fish and around 350 types of hard coral.
He added that the Red Sea belongs to the Indo-Pacific region, and its unique geographical conditions have led to the presence of endemic species not found anywhere else.
Sarhan said scientific research is ongoing to catalog the marine life in the Red Sea. Recently, five species of sea turtles and 12 types of seagrass have been recorded, along with hundreds of species of mollusks, crustaceans, and sponges.
