Japan conducts first AI-powered naval mine clearance trial

Japan's navy has conducted its first trial using artificial intelligence and unmanned systems for naval mine clearance at a naval base in Busan, South Korea.

The trial involved the Japanese minesweeper 'Unjin', as well as aircraft, unmanned surface vessels, and an autonomous underwater vehicle. An AI system analyzed weather and ocean current data and guided operations to locate simulated mines.

The exercise demonstrated the effectiveness of integrating AI with human crews and unmanned systems.
