Health Ministry expands clinical privileges for general dentists from 18 to 41

The Ministry of Health has approved an updated list of clinical privileges for general dentists, expanding the scope from 18 to 41 privileges. This move aims to enhance patient safety, empower general dentists, and increase access to dental services in both the public and private sectors. The privileges will be granted by the clinical privileges committee at each healthcare facility, in accordance with approved regulations.

The update broadens the range of services that general dentists may be authorized to perform, covering wider areas in assessment and diagnosis, preventive and therapeutic care, periodontal and endodontic treatment, pediatric dental care, prosthodontics, and emergency case management.

The clinical privileges committee at each healthcare facility is responsible for granting privileges to general dentists after evaluating their competence, qualifications, and fulfillment of approved requirements. This ensures clarity in the scope of practice and strengthens patient safety and quality of care.

The update provides a unified reference for clinical privileges committees at healthcare facilities, supporting optimal utilization of general dentists' skills, improving service delivery efficiency and facility capacity, and facilitating beneficiary access to care.

The update also includes separate lists of clinical privileges for various dental specialties, tailored to the nature and requirements of each specialty, and offers a clearer framework for regulating clinical practice.
