Cardiology expert urges first aid training for eight key groups

Dr. Khaled Al-Nemer, consultant and professor of cardiology and arterial catheterization, has emphasized the importance of first aid training for eight key groups.

Writing on the X platform, Al-Nemer said that first aid is a professional and ethical necessity for all healthcare practitioners, including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. He added that paramedics and technicians, security personnel, civil defense, police, firefighters, rescuers, teachers, and supervisors in schools and nurseries—especially physical education teachers and those overseeing school trips and transportation—would also benefit greatly from first aid knowledge.

According to Al-Nemer, sports coaches, staff at clubs and swimming pools, those working at large public gatherings, employees in high-risk environments such as factories, construction sites, electrical facilities, mines, laboratories, airports, and the transport sector, as well as caregivers for the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, should all be trained in first aid. He also recommended training for family members of patients at risk of cardiac arrest or choking—such as those with arterial disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, or a history of cardiac arrest—and for professional drivers, particularly school bus, taxi, and public transport drivers.
