Umm Al-Qura University concludes inaugural living museums enrichment program

Umm Al-Qura University, through its Cultural Front, has concluded the first edition of the Living Museums Enrichment Program, which saw the participation of 75 individuals. Over the course of the program, participants received 35 hours of enrichment and training, covering a range of theoretical and practical topics related to heritage and museums. The initiative is part of the university’s efforts to promote awareness of cultural and historical heritage, and to develop knowledge and skills related to heritage and historical sites in Makkah.

The program featured diverse modules addressing both tangible and intangible heritage, methods for introducing and preserving cultural heritage, and ways to highlight it. It also included accompanying activities such as sports, meetings, and various knowledge exhibitions, providing participants with an enriching experience that combined learning, practical application, and interaction.

The program helped participants understand the importance of living museums and their role in presenting history and heritage through interactive methods that connect visitors to the place and its cultural elements. It also promoted the use of historical and heritage sites as knowledge spaces that help preserve cultural memory and pass it on to future generations.

This initiative is part of Umm Al-Qura University’s commitment to distinctive programs that highlight the cultural and historical assets of Makkah, strengthen its position as a destination with deep civilizational and cultural roots, and develop youth capabilities by equipping them with knowledge and skills to enhance their participation in cultural and tourism sectors.

The program reflects the university’s approach to leveraging its academic and knowledge resources in community service, linking theoretical knowledge with practical application, and raising awareness of the importance of preserving both tangible and intangible heritage. It also aims to support cultural tourism and enrich the visitor experience.

The Living Museums Enrichment Program was held in conjunction with International Youth Day, aiming to support tourism and culture related to heritage and historical sites in Makkah, and to provide knowledge and practical content that helps qualify participants and deepen their understanding of the holy city’s civilizational and cultural heritage.
