Kuwaiti Cabinet recalls key Saudi role in country’s liberation in 1991

Kuwaiti Cabinet on Monday lauded Saudi Arabia for playing a leading role in liberating the country from the Iraqi occupation in 1991.

The Cabinet also acknowledged the contribution of other Gulf states as well as other countries that sided with Kuwait against Iraqi occupation, the Kuwait News Agency reported.

The council of ministers made the observation as it recalled the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on its 31st anniversary, denouncing the "heinous crime".

The Cabinet also expressed its great appreciation for the prominent role played by the late Kuwaiti emirs; Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah; Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah; and Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah in liberating Kuwait and thwarting the aggression.

The ministers also appreciated the efforts of those leaders in rebuilding the country in record time in collaboration with citizens.

During the meeting, the Cabinet expressed pride for the unity and cohesion of the Kuwaiti society; and their steadfastness against the brutal aggression and its practices; Foreign Minister as well as Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah said after the meeting.

The Cabinet remembered the hundreds of brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their beloved nation.

Separately, the prime minister and ministers also congratulated His Highness the Amir on the advent of the new Hijri year; which falls on Aug. 9.
