The sons of the late citizen and journalist Jamal Khashoggi announced early on Friday that they have forgiven those who killed their father confirming they are waiting for the reward from God Almighty.

"In this righteous night of this holy month we recall the verse in God Almighty holy book: (The repayment of bad actions, is one equivalent to it, But whoever pardons and makes reconciliation, his reward lies with God. He does not love the unjust." Khashoggi's sons said in a statement.

"We are sons of martyr Jamal Khashoggi, hereby announce that we forgive those who killed our father – may he rest in peace – for the sake of God Almighty, and we hopefully seeking the reward from God Almighty," the statement added.

Five people were sentenced to death and three more were given jail terms by Riyadh's criminal court over the murder of Khashoggi last year.

Khashoggi was killed when he visited the Saudi Consulate in October 2018 in Istanbul.
