GCC, Sweden Discuss Latest Developments in Yemen

GCC (the Gulf Cooperation Council) stands with Saudi Arabia in all measures it takes to preserve its security; said Nayef Al-Hajraf, the secretary-general of the GCC.

Assistant Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States (GCC) for Political Affairs and Negotiations Dr. Abdulaziz bin Hamad Al-Owaishek met here today with Sweden’s Special Envoy for Yemen Ambassador Peter Semneby.

During the meeting, Al-Owaishek and Semneby went over latest developments at the Yemeni arena, and reviewed GCC’s efforts to support political solutions in Yemen according to the three references of the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216.

Discussions also covered the initiative announced in March, 2021 by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to end the crisis in Yemen, reach a comprehensive political solution and embark on consultations among Yemeni parties to reach a political solution to the Yemeni crisis under UN auspices. Ambassador Semneby reviewed Swedish efforts in following up on the Yemeni issue at political and humanitarian levels, voicing his appreciation for cooperation with the GCC.
