Gargash: GCC Stronger After AlUla Summit

UAE Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Anwar Gargash said that the Gulf Cooperation Council is now stronger after AlUla Summit; stressing that GCC countries opened a new page with Qatar.

In a virtual press conference on Thursday after the decision to mend ties with Qatar, Gargash highlighted the importance of solidarity; unity, and security among the Gulf states.

"We are extremely, extremely supportive and positive about AlUla declaration," he affirmed; adding that travel and trade ties with Qatar will resume soon.

"Practical measures aimed at turning a new page with Qatar willgo into action within a week of the agreement; including travel, shipping, and trade."

However, he said, the UAE is realistic as any crisis will leave issues of trust, some will be easy to fix, but others will take a longer time; stressing the importance of transparency and implementing constructive approach.

"I'm glad this is coming to an end but this crisis; will also depend on the transparency and constructive approach that we deal with as we move forward."

For his part, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said during the summit there was an urgent need for Gulf countries; in order to unite their efforts, especially in the face of the Iranian threat in the region.

He also said the AlUla Declaration affirmed "Gulf, Arab and Islamic solidarity and stability."

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia's AlUla hosted the 41st GCC summit where Gulf leaders signed the AlUla declaration, paving the way to resolve the Gulf rift.
