Four heavily armed assailants were killed in an abortive attempt of attack on the General Directorate of Investigation's Center in al-Zulfi suburb around 250 km north of Riyadh, Al-Arabiya TV reported.

Videos circulating on social media show the dead armed withmachine guns, bombs and Molotov cocktails.

The suspects who were on board a car tried to crash throughthe main entrance of the General Directorate of Investigation's Center inRiyadh, but were intercepted by security and prevented the vehicle from gainingaccess into the compund, according toReuters.

It said the attackers had rammed a vehicle into a securitybarrier around the base in an attempt to gain entry.

Two gunmen died after opening fire on police, who killedthem, one was killed as he attempted to flee, while the fourth attacker died ashe tried to blow up an explosive belt, pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat reported.

 Saudisecurity forces thwarted a terrorist attack on a government building in northof Riyadh's  Zulfi city.
