Minister of Finance, IMF Managing Director Hold Joint Press Conference on Key Outcomes of IMFC Meetings

The Saudi Minister of Finance and Chairman of the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan, has held a joint press conference with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva to discuss the key outcomes of the IMFC meetings, as well as the remarks of the IMF Managing Director on the global policy agenda (GPA).

Al-Jadaan acknowledged the efforts exerted by the former chair of the IMFC, Nadia Calvino, stressing the need to strengthen multilateral cooperation to improve the resilience of the global economy and the international monetary system

He also emphasized the importance of addressing the main issues facing the global economy, such as the high levels of sovereign debt that hinder the ability of low-income countries to grow their economies and improve the lives of their people.

The minister explained that IMFC members support the IMF’s continuing efforts to enhance capacity development in member countries. He also welcomed the launch of the Global Public Finance Partnership to respond to growing demand for capacity development in public finance.

Al-Jadaan and IMF Managing Director are looking forward to the addition of a new 25th Chair to the IMF Executive Board, assigned for Africa to improve its voice and representation of those nations in the Board, starting in November 2024.
