
The Grand Mosque consumes more than 100 megavolt-amperes (MVA) daily to operate its electrical service system through a large network that meets the needs of lighting, air conditioning, sound systems and elevators, allowing visitors to enjoy a serene and spiritual experience in the precincts of the Grand Mosque.
According to the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, there are numerous sources of electrical supply in the mosque, including four main stations, 13 substations, six medium-voltage feeders, 40 voltage transformers, and eight backup generators with a capacity of 32 MVA.
The authority noted that it has prepared 74 emergency scenarios to ensure the comfort and tranquility of visitors to the two holy mosques and to guarantee the continuous and uninterrupted operation of electrical networks.
Furthermore, the Grand Mosque boasts some 11 main and backup power sources, and has maintained uninterrupted power for 40 years.
