Saudi renewable energy institute chief: uranium localization key to peaceful nuclear stockpile

Majid Al-Refaie, Chairman of the Saudi Renewable Energy Institute, praised efforts to localize uranium production in the Kingdom.

Speaking in an interview with Al Ekhbariya TV, Al-Refaie said that localizing uranium is one of the most important future goals to support Saudi Arabia’s peaceful nuclear stockpile.

He added that the Kingdom is rich in mineral resources and capabilities that will benefit both renewable and nuclear energy industries for years to come.

He continued that Saudi Arabia is moving forward to increase energy production alongside renewables, and possesses many valuable minerals vital for various industries, including atomic and renewable energy for several years.

Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman earlier affirmed that the Kingdom is advancing a comprehensive national energy mix, including nuclear power, and is working on a uranium exploration program.

The minister added, during Saudi Arabia’s address at the International Atomic Energy Agency conference, that the Kingdom has established itself as a reliable energy supplier and is the world’s second-largest exporter of phosphate fertilizers, noting that global energy demand is rapidly increasing.
